VIDOL Closes in Observation of the Holiday Season. CARES Act Deadline approaches and individuals
who wish to apply for Loss Wages Assistance must do so by December 27th

V.I. Department of Labor (VIDOL) Commissioner, Gary Molloy, announces that the VIDOL will resume services to the public from 9:00 AM- 4:00 PM on Tuesday-Wednesday. As an essential agency, the VIDOL has remained open and continues the day to day operations required to maintain benefits and services for those in need. The Thursday and Friday closures are in observance of the holiday season, proclaimed by the Office of the Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

December 27, 2020 is the deadline for applying for the current programs that give assistance to individuals who normally do not qualify for unemployment insurance under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security better known as the CARES Act. Once individuals have completed the general application, there is no other required procedure unless indicated by official correspondence. If individuals have already applied for Unemployment Insurance, they are urged not to file twice.

Unemployment Insurance Division continues to mail out the Lost Wage Assistance Program applications. All applications are sent directly to eligible individuals. All programs have different requirements and come with qualification, to apply or review details that can be found on the V.I. Department of Labor website, visit www.vidol.gov. Below are some tips when filing for LWAP:

1. LWAP stands for Lost Wage Assistance Program and is a special program that will require several layers of an application process and will take the amount of time required to process and crosscheck information before administering payments.
2. All U.I. Programs are supplemental and are not intended to fully cover individual expenses, but rather a program to partially provided support based on need.
3. When completing the application, do not tear or rip the form. Fill in the required information and return the document whole.
4. The application is currently green (and examples can be found in attachments.)

Additionally, claimants can utilize the Integrated Voice Response System (IVR) by calling 340-715-5744 and using their assigned Personal Identification Number (PIN) to check on the status of their claim.
