VIDOL Resolves Direct Deposit Processing Issue Affecting Unemployment Insurance Claimants
USVI – The Virgin Islands Department of Labor (VIDOL) apologizes to Unemployment Insurance (UI) claimants for recent delays in direct deposit payments caused by a technical issue. The problem stemmed from the use of special characters (e.g., Jesús vs. Jesus or Mary-Ann vs MaryAnn) in claimant names during the direct deposit process, which resulted in processing errors.
VIDOL is pleased to announce that the issue has been fully resolved. A permanent update to the direct deposit system now converts special characters, ensuring smooth processing moving forward. In addition, the Department has reviewed and corrected names affected by the issue to ensure accuracy and prevent future disruptions.
Effective immediately:
- The system update automatically removes special characters during the processing of claimant names.
- Claimants are advised not to hyphenate their names in the VIDOLAS system.
The Department acknowledges the inconvenience this issue has caused and deeply regrets the delays. VIDOL is committed to providing transparent, efficient, and uninterrupted service to claimants.
Should claimants encounter any additional issues or have questions about their UI claims and/or direct deposit, they are encouraged to contact VIDOL directly at (340) 773-1994 or (340) 776-3700.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we continue to enhance our systems to better serve you.
