Greetings to the Dedicated Men and Women of the U.S. Virgin Islands,
The Virgin Islands Department of Labor (VIDOL) extends its heartfelt wishes for a day filled with safety, joy, and profound reflection on this significant “Liberty Day,” dedicated to our very own David Hamilton Jackson. David Hamilton Jackson’s legacy is continuously inspiring as a labor leader, statesman, community advocate, and journalist. Despite the constant criticism that he received, Jackson understood the essential importance of empowering the public with knowledge about their rights as workers and valiantly opposed the injustices that threatened Virgin Islanders’ quality of life.
Let us unite as one Territory today to acknowledge Jackson’s role in affirming a free press. As Virgin Islanders, we embody resilience, a legacy of self-determination, and a commitment to justice. Jackson stands as an enduring historical and cultural icon, and a beacon of unwavering inspiration for the working class that laid the foundation for the resolute Virgin Islands we cherish today.
We must continue to draw inspiration from the cultural teachings passed down by our historical leaders. Liberty Day reminds us that our collective journey forward is our path to success. Let us never forget the price of liberty on this day and the passionate spirit and legacy of the great David Hamilton Jackson.
Sincerely,
Gary Molloy
Commissioner
