A Message from the Commissioner of Labor

Dear Fellow Virgin Islanders,

It is my honor to wish us all a happy V.I. History Month and Women’s History Month. As we continue to celebrate the diversity within the territory, we want to remember the enslaved Africans that are the backbone of this territory. The Virgin Islands is a uniquely Caribbean and American territory, where we welcome and embrace people from many walks of life. The intersection of V.I. History Month and Women’s History Month can be celebrated as we observe therevolutionary historical figures Queen Mary, Queen Agnes, and Queen Matilda. This extends tothe present with Matriarch Ms. Asta Williams of the Masqueraders. These resilient women havecontributed to our freedom and created a foundation for future generations to pursue the professionof their choice, including traditional areas as mothers and caregivers.

While we celebrate these two important observances, it is important that we highlight the achievements of women in V.I. history and highlight how their legacies continue in the generations that followed. The V.I. Department of Labor salutes the hard work of all the men and women who have made the Virgin Islands what it is today, and we look forward to celebrating and highlighting their contributions throughout the month.

In closing, enjoy the month’s festivities and stay safe as we continue to uplift our culture and history.

Respectfully,

Gary Molloy|
Labor Commissioner
U.S. Virgin Islands
