VIDOL Hosts Successful 2024 Labor Laws Compliance Summit

USVI — The Virgin Islands Department of Labor (VIDOL) extends its sincere thanks to all attendees and speakers for contributing to the success of the 2024 Labor Laws Compliance Summit. Held on September 10th at the University of the Virgin Islands ACC Building in St. Thomas, and on September 12th at the Great Hall in St. Croix, the summit united key voices from businesses, government agencies, and stakeholders to address critical compliance issues affecting the U.S. Virgin Islands workforce.

Commissioner Gary Molloy opened the event, emphasizing the importance of compliance in building a stronger workforce and fostering a more vibrant economy. The summit offered valuable insights into employer responsibilities and workforce development strategies, focusing on compliance with VIDOL regulations. Attendees gained practical tools for managing labor law compliance, minimizing legal risks, and fostering a resilient workforce.

A highlight of the summit was the special presentation by Amy Gonzalez, Immigration Training Officer, and Brian Pasternak, Administrator from the U.S. Department of Labor. They provided crucial information on the Foreign Labor Certification (FLC) Program, guiding employers through the process of hiring foreign workers to meet critical labor needs.

The event also featured comprehensive presentations on key services offered by VIDOL, including Labor Relations, Workforce Development, Unemployment Insurance, Workers’ Compensation, and Hearings & Appeals.

VIDOL extends special thanks to Assistant Commissioner and Legal Counsel Nesha Christian Hendrickson, Esq., Senior Compliance Officer Tracy Callwood, Director of Labor Relations Gwen Steele, Director of Workforce Development Charlene Hodge, Director Government Insurance Fund, Anthony Selkridge, Assistant Director of Workers Compensation Kesi Petersen, Director of Workers’ Compensation Rainia Thomas and all others who shared their expertise, making the summit a valuable resource for the business community.

We also extend our gratitude to the University of the Virgin Islands for hosting the summit and to all participants for making it a successful and meaningful event.
